Fun Day Drive: Black Pearl Farm, 19th February 2023


Dear Cape Land Rover Club Members,


Our next Fun Day drive will be at Black Pearl Farm, just outside Paarl.


The Club will lay out a set of obstacles, ranging from mild to challenging, with the latter being optional. The terrain is generally firm, with clay sand, and a few rocky sections.


This is a great opportunity for newbies to get to know their vehicle on the obstacle course, and, to this end, our more experienced drivers will be at hand to help.


We will have a braai after the drive, so please bring your camping chairs, braai grids, and braai packs, the Club will provide the wood.


Please note that NO DOGS are allowed at this venue!


Venue: Black Pearl Farm


Directions (from almost anywhere):

  • Travelling East or West on the N1.
  • Take the R44 offramp, turn North towards Wellington.
  • After 6.5km on the R44, you will pass the Suid-Agter-Paarl Road on your right.
  • The entrance to Black Pearl Farm is on the RHS (gravel road) 800 meters later. You cannot miss the BLACK PEARL lettering in black, on the white building. The entrance is immediately after the building.
  • Turn Right onto the gravel road and pass the white painted building and take the first turn LEFT, then next RIGHT, and stop at the campsite. The Lapa is on your left.

Time: Drivers' meeting at 10:00am


Trail cost: R200 per vehicle cash payable at venue, whether you participate in the drive or are just spectating/visiting/socializing. Families may enter multiple drivers at no additional cost.


Lunch: A braai or picnic lunch at the boma, please bring your own camping chair, food, and drinks.

  • Only fully paid up members of the club will be allowed to participate in this event.
  • Radio (the Club will have radios for hire @ R50 on the day, NO participation without a Radio).
  • Vehicles taking part must be fitted with appropriate recovery points (front and rear).
  • Recovery Gear, including Recovery strap.
  • Tyre repair kit & Compressor.
  • Please do not litter: take all cigarette stompies and packaging, etc, away with you.

Weekend Outing: De Akker Campsite, Allandale Guest Farm, Citrusdal, 3rd - 5th March 2023


Dear Club Members,

We are heading to the Cederberg in March for a weekend outing. We have booked the De Akker Campsite on Allandale Guest Farm, located about 9km outside of Citrusdal. The campsite is situated next to a dam, and there are plenty of activities to keep everyone happy: fishing, hiking, cycling, and, of course, a 4x4 trail that we will drive on Saturday.


For those of you unable to get away for the whole weekend, please join us for the trail on Saturday, the driver's meeting will be at 10am sharp.


Regrettably, NO PETS are allowed on the farm!


Venue: De Akker Campsite on Allandale Guest Farm (Directions from Cape Town)


Date: Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th March 2023


Costs

  • Camping: R130 per person per night, no charge for children under 9 (50% deposit required to book your spot)
  • Chalets: Yes, book and pay directly with the farm 
  • Trail: no cost


Plan:

  • Friday: Arrive at your leisure, meet at 18:00hrs on Friday evening for a Club braai (wood will be provided by the Club)
  • Saturday: Drive the 4x4 trail. Alternatively, spend the day chilling/hiking/fishing/swimming, etc. We will braai again in the evening (wood will be provided by the Club)
  • Sunday: Break camp and make your way home at your leisure


RSVP:

  • NO LATER THAN Wednesday, 15th February 2023
  • A 50% deposit of the accommodation costs is required for your booking
  • Email the completed recon form & proof of payment to outingspayments@clrc.co.za

Long Weekend Outing: Matjieskloof Adventure Farm, Tankwa Karoo, 27th April - 1st May 2023


Dear Club Members,

Instead of our usual Easter Weekend getaway, we have decided on a longer camping weekend to 
Matjieskloof Adventure Farm in the Tankwa Karoo. If you like remote areas, this is the perfect getaway for you: bring your mountain bike/hiking boots, etc.

The aptly-named Orion Belt's Bush campsite is equipped with solar power, hot water showers & flushing toilets, a lapa braai area, a splash pool, and pets are welcome (please arrange beforehand).

There are only 12 camping sites available, so make sure to book your spot quickly!

Please note that ​​there is no fuel available in Middlepos any more, so you will need to refuel in Sutherland/Calvinia on your way to the farm.

Date: Thursday 27th April to Monday 1st May 2023


Camping:

  • R170 per person per night
  • 1 vehicle per stand
  • Max 5 people per stand
  • No charge for children under 10

  • Thursday: Arrive at your leisure, meet at 18:00hrs for a Club braai (wood will be provided by the Club)
  • Friday: Explore the farm at your leisure
  • Saturday: Drive down to Tankwa & back
  • Sunday: Drive the back roads to Calvinia for refuelling & lunch
  • Monday: Break camp and drive back to Cape Town via Ouberg Pass & Ceres

Previous Outings

Water Weekend, 13th-15th January 2023, Bergenwater, Rawsonville


Dear Club Members,


At long last, we can look forward to the ever-popular Water Weekend in January 2023!


We have booked six camping sites at the Bergenwater Campsite in Rawsonville, which is located on a working wine farm: https://bergenwater.co.za/.


Surrounded by the river, vineyards, and mountains, the lush green grass campsite features clean ablutions with hot/cold showers & flushing toilets, power outlets, braai stands, etc., and is child-friendly.


There are plenty of activities to keep everyone occupied: swimming, mountain biking, hiking, bird watching, and of course, a nice 4x4 trail that we will tackle on Saturday. Penny and Derick will also put together some fun activities for the children and adults attending!


For those of you unable to get away for the whole weekend, please join us for the trail on Saturday, the driver's meeting will be at 9am sharp (RSVP with Derick directly).

Venue: Bergenwater Campsite

  • Camping: R150 per person per night (50% deposit required to book your spot)
  • Trail: R150 per vehicle, to be paid in cash at the venue

  • Friday: Arrive at your leisure, meet at 18:00hrs on Friday evening for a Club braai (wood will be provided by the Club)
  • Saturday: Drive the 4x4 trail. Alternatively, spend the day chilling/hiking/fishing/swimming, etc. We will braai again in the evening (wood will be provided by the Club)
  • Sunday: Break camp and make your way home at your leisure

Alternative Accommodation:

For those of you not wanting to camp, there are cottages/guest houses close to Bergenwater, in ascending order of distance:

  • 2km: Potjie's Place Farmhouse, located on the neighbour's farm. It features 3 double rooms, 1 kids bedroom with 4 bunk beds, and 1 room with 2 single beds. We have made a provisional booking under the Club's name. Should you wish to stay there, please contact Wilmien on +27 84 517 6662 to book directly.
  • 4.5km: Rawsonville House guesthouse, located in Rawsonville. Book directly via their website.
  • 5km: Monte Rosa Guesthouse, located in Rawsonville. Book directly via their website.
